CASE STUDIES

In 2013 we were awarded a 3 year contract following by a second 3 year contract in 2016.

With an overall contract value of £1.3 million at Trawsfynydd nuclear decommissioning site, this project required us to provide consultancy services, refurbishment/demolition surveys, air testing, and four-stage clearances and preparation of asbestos removal specifications with all buildings throughout the site, including twin nuclear reactors and ponds facilities.

Vetting (DV) clearance was required for a team of ten site operatives, enabling them to work alongside sensitive materials and information.

Staff were trained in the site’s security includingd systems of radiological controls, on-site escalation, first aid provisions, and muster points in the event of potential emergencies (e.g. fire), in accordance with the Nuclear Industries Security Regulations (NISR).

Over six years, we maintained 100% compliance with the site’s security protocols, evidencing our ability to work in a sensitive environment, operating on a 24/7/365 basis.

Aligning with the decommissioning schedule, ensuring surveys were completed as per the critical path to facilitate the site’s refurbishment/demolition – for example, completing surveys in Reactors 1 & 2 within 4 months in advance of programmed de-planting and capping roof projects . To accomplish this, Project Manager Tony Regan attended Weekly meetings with Magnox and other assigned contractors, to identify any urgent works and agree an appropriate programme. Facilitating our 100% on time completion rate, this strategy will be implemented for Bedfordshire and Hertfordshire police during any construction works.

Meeting constrained turnaround times of 1 day for sample analyses, by installing a temporary bulk laboratory on site. UKAS-accredited and certified to the standards of ISO 17025:2017, this allowed us to produce results without travelling to our Leicester-based laboratory.

Health and safety management. Due to the nature of the site, several ACMs were identified in hazardous areas, such as the ponds building (R3C4 categorised radiological area). Site Health Physics together with NEBOSH-qualified Director Robert Hubbard therefore assessed the site in pre-start surveys, producing site-specific risk assessments and method statements (RAMS) to inform safe delivery – for example, providing operatives with site-specific training, such as transit procedures, alongside additional PPE, such as Radiological coveralls and monitoring equipment. Resulting in zero RIDDOR-reportable accidents over the five year term, we therefore confirm our commitment to health and safety and ability to manage different property requirements

In 2020 we were appointed a contract to provide asbestos management surveys to Unite Students portfolio of student accommodation properties throughout the UK.

Since that time we have completed and managed their UK wide asbestos register, the annual reinspection surveys, air monitoring and 4 stage clearance procedures throughout numerous asbestos removal projects

This contract is serviced by eight dedicated personnel, managed by Director Tony Regan and supported by our ISO 17025:2012-certified laboratory. All hold role-specific qualifications, including BOHS P401 Bulk Sample Analysis, P402 Surveying, P403 Fibre Counting and P404 Clearance Testing, enabling us to produce 100% accurate results. Our expertise also allows us to manage different challenges, including:

• During initial management surveys, it was found that historical surveys had failed to record numerous asbestos containing materials, requiring new management surveys across each site. More than 50 additional ACMs were identified during this process, demonstrating the comprehensiveness of our surveys.

• Property requirements. As these are accommodation properties they can be open 24/7/365, there is minimal downtime to complete re-inspections. We therefore complete works in phases, aligning schedules with site managers to ensure efficiency and accuracy.

As a result of these measures, we maintained a 100% customer satisfaction rating; our experience will enable us to replicate these results for similar type contracts.

In 2019 we were awarded an second 3 year contract to provide asbestos surveying and analytical services to Citizen Housing portfolio of domestic properties throughout the west midlands.

Since that time we have completed in excess of 3000 surveys including management surveys annual reinspection surveys and refurbishment surveys.

We have also provided a system to seamlessly transfer data onto the Citizen CAFM system from our database eliminating the potential of human error and assisting the client with their management of asbestos within the properties .

We have also carried air monitoring and 4 stage clearance procedures throughout numerous asbestos removal projects including the removal of thermal insulation to all risers with a Central Coventry tower block.

This contract is serviced by six dedicated personnel, managed by Director Tony Regan and supported by our ISO 17025:2012-certified laboratory. All hold role-specific qualifications, including BOHS P401 Bulk Sample Analysis, P402 Surveying, P403 Fibre Counting and P404 Clearance Testing, enabling us to produce 100% accurate results.

In 2019 we were awarded a 2 year contract which was extended to 3 years by both Bedfordshire and Hertfordshire Police Constabularies

The contract was for Asbestos Consultancy Services to include the project management of all asbestos removal works including all associated analytical works, management surveys, annual reinspection surveys, refurbishment and demolition surveys.

The services were provided to the portfolio of over 20 offices, 50 police stations and 20 ancillary buildings such as training centres, garages and animal welfare buildings.

Project Manager Richard Wilsher attended pre-start meetings with relevant stakeholders (e.g. site managers/contractors and designers for refurbishments), confirming the scope of works and aligning programmes with police schedules to minimise disruption – e.g. scheduling surveys when there are no planned events, such as strike action.

Programming works within required timeframes. This includes completing reinspection surveys within one year of previous inspections; management surveys within 2 weeks; and refurbishment/demolition surveys within 2 weeks. This is supported by four contingency staff, trained in analysis and surveying, allowing us to perform reactive surveys/air testing within two hours.

Producing bespoke report templates using our Selby management system, tailoring data fields to client requirements for a more focussed service – e.g. including an alterative ‘recommended actions’ section to inform future management.

Our team of six multi-skilled surveyors/site analysts using PDAs and Selby to complete surveys on-site, as well as analysing air samples using our mobile laboratories. For surveys, reports are automatically synced with internal servers upon completion, to be assessed by administrators for completeness/accuracy before submission via email. For air test results, reports are submitted directly to clients via email within one hour, using our mobile testing laboratory. Exceeding reporting requirements of 1 day, this strategy will be replicated for this contract.

Demonstrating our competence, measures have resulted in 100% of works being delivered on time, 99% of reports being submitted on time, and a 99% customer satisfaction rating.
